Clinical Laboratory and Local Veteran's Service Organization Targeted SoftwareI am a hospital based Medical Technologist and also Secretary of my local Fleet Reserve Association branch. Clinical Laboratories: Being cognizant of the anal local SYSADMIN and sometimes corporate software policies (and the cost of some software) in hospital environments, I have been writing some applications for use at my laboratory. I am making them available here, free for hospital based laboratories and CLS programs. As I see a need for something, I will write it and post it here. If you have a need for something that your LIS doesn't do, the bean-counters won't let you buy, or even if you can't find that damn calculator that should be in the drawer, let me know and give me an idea of what you need. I will NOT charge a hospital/CLS program laboratory for this service. If what I have almost fits the bill, I will customize it for you. Veteran's Service Organizations (local units): I wrote a simple and quick membership management program in a dos-based system a long time ago (I am still using it), but with M$ dropping API support for operating systems earlier than Win2000, I am going to have to port to a windows-based environment. I am currently working on this project. I could use input from all you unit secretaries on what you would like to see. Again, I will customize the application to your local needs. All of the software below is windows based. I do not support MacIntosh. As I learn the intrinsics of Xwindows, I will be porting the software into Linux for those of you with either Linux or Unix based systems running X (I'll even tarball it for you!). Use the "Email Me" button to the left to submit a request or ideas. Please prefix the subject line with "Software Request" so it will be filtered into the appropriate folder. Will diminish the chance of me missing it!
The Goodies!Laboratory Stuff Clini-Calc - Where's that damn calculator? Can't find it? Use me for those calculations. Maybe your doing something on the side for someone that has calculated parameters and can't place it into the LIS (c'mon, we all do it!)? Here's the solution. Screen Shot Standing Orders - I saw a request on MEDLAB-L (an absolutely great laboratory mailing list, by the way) for software to manage their external clients ( I refuse to use PC terms like "outreach") standing orders. I offered to write this for them after doing some googling and finding nothing but Medical Office software (way too expensive for us hospital pukes). Screen Shot Still in production Bone Marrow Log After my last bone marrow, I realized that the paper log we had was so vulnerable to loss of pages. I started this one. It will print the phone-in order as a requisition for the doc to sign at the time of the marrow, as well as the local charge sheet we use. Blood Bank Inventory I wrote this one as a quick and dirty BB Inventory Management tool. We were still on paper logs for maintaining our inventory records. Our 'Oh so cheap' corporate management bought a 20 year old HIS/LIS system for an outrageous price and then would not activate the Blood Bank module. This one is in dBase V and I am presently converting it to VB (v3), so no GUI yet`. V2 will be in VdB 7 and is almost done and is GUI. Pathology Accession Database. Tired of looking up past pathology reports (or even current) from a paper log? Our afterhours staff does not even have a key to the pathology department readily accessible. Here is a database application that will allow them to look up the accession number for retrieval of reports. Lately, our bean-counters have been wanting to know how many cases of a particular ICD9 we have been processing. This will have the capability of providing that type of report. VSO's
FRA Membership Database Years ago I had written a management package in a DOS environment. After having upgraded to XP with a new computer, it doesn't run right. So I have started this project. It manages your whole local Branch. Will print nice rosters for distribution, your mailing labels for your newsletter. I could use some other ideas for it. Here is a demo of what I have visualized so far. It has no database functions yet, all it does is collect your branch information and save it. You can pull down the menus, but they don't go anywhere yet! American Legion and VFW posts will have something similar and will be "personalized" in the same way.
